The 5% Listening to Understand

About the event

Does One-Person-One Vote Equal Representation for All? How?

Rules:

This event invites communicators to listen across differences, engage in dialogue, and try to understand viewpoints different from their own by offering freedom to speak their perspectives and creating the external conditions of safety, equality, and respect.

The moderator rules for the evening are:

1. Stick to your own views; let others describe theirs.

2. Listen for where we might have common ground.

3. Do not interrupt the person speaking.

4. The moderator determines the speaking order and, if time permits, the order of replies.

5. You may choose not to speak or participate at any time.

6. Everyone is of equal value.

7. Do not deny your emotions, but don’t let them control you.

8. Do not expect anyone to change their position.

9. Understanding is contagious; give it a try.

10. As Saint Francis said:

Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek so much

to be understood as to understand.
